How to Draw a Seal: Start with Simple Shapes

Once your outline is ready, join the shapes with smooth, curved lines. Keep your lines soft, seals are round and cuddly, not sharp or angular.

Step 1

Start your seal drawing by making one long, curved line. This line should loop upward for the head and slope back down to form the seal’s body and tail area.

Step 2

Next, draw a small flipper at the front of the seal’s body. It curves outward like a tiny fin and has a few short lines to show the folds. This will be the seal’s right flipper.

Step 2 in drawing a seal: outline with flipper details, part of a simple art tutorial.

Step 3

Now add the other flipper on the opposite side of the body. Make it slightly longer and facing downward, so it looks like the seal is resting its weight on it.

Step 3: Outline of a seal drawing tutorial with partially drawn flippers.

Step 4

At the back of the seal, draw two flippers that fan out like a “V” shape. These are the back fins and will help your seal look balanced and playful. Draw a curved line from the tail down to the left flipper to make your seals belly.

Step 5

Add two large, round eyes near the top of the head. Keep them wide and round for that cute, friendly look. You can even leave a tiny white dot inside each eye for sparkle. We also added eyebrows for fun.

Step 6

Now draw a small oval nose near the center of the face. Under the nose, add two short lines that curve outward, then a small curved line for it's chin. This gives your seal face drawing its sweet expression. Add a small curved line above the nose to create a snout.
